Dr. Martens Launches Collection With Jean-Michael Basquiat

Since the deaths of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and Tony McDade the fashion industry went back to the drawing board about how each and every brand maneuvers through this extremely sensitive time. Some have altered their business practice to uplift and work with Black creatives and Dr. Martens is leading the pack. The ultimate cool-kid shoe, the combat boot conglomerate has been a staple for any grunge aesthetic.

Out today is the brands latest collection with late legendary postmodern artist Jean-Michael Basquiat. Although Basquait passed in the 80’s, his work still provides great context for this era. And his estate has snagged some pretty cool collaborations to honor his legacy.

Dr. Martens pays tribute to the late Brooklyn born poet, musician, artist and rebel — with a new 1460 boot, 1461 shoe, Kids 1460 boot, and special laces all providing canvases for his legendary artwork. Graffiti-influenced, energetic album piece ‘Beat Bop’ is scrawled across their Original 8-eye boot and the ambitious ‘Dustheads’ has been printed onto the 1461 shoe, reworking subcultural classics into energetic, chaotic designs.

The collaboration will retail from $130.00 – $160.00 and available in a full range of kids and adult sizing. Available on drmartens.com and select partners.
