Less than 24 hours out from a presidential election that has heightened tensions across the country, former Vice President Biden is beating President Trump at the polls.

According to election analytics site FiveThirtyEight, Biden has an 8.5% lead over Trump across the nation. The platform also reminded voters of one of the states that may help determine the country’s fate—Pennsylvania. Biden is up by 5 points there, as 50% of voters prefer him versus President Trump’s 45%. Pennsylvania is a swing state, meaning that it has oscillated between Democrat and Republican for the past 100 years. In 2016, it was believed that it would be a close race there, but ultimately it went to the Republican party and Trump carried 84% of the state.

Other potential key states include Florida, Wisconsin, Michigan and Arizona, as they are all swing states as well. Biden currently has the lead in Wisconsin and Michigan and is behind Trump by one point in Florida. The two are tied in Arizona.

As we’ve noted, Texas is currently thought to be toss up state, after years of voting Republican.

In comparison to the 2016 election, poll-wise, Biden is doing better than Hillary Clinton was. This is due to the fact that Biden stands a fighting chance in states like Arizona, Florida and North Carolina, since he’s only minimally behind by 1 point in the latter two.
