Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.

* Democratic officials filed suit Wednesday to block Donald Trump’s executive order seeking to impose new restrictions on mail-in voting. The lawsuit was filed by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and the leadership of the Democratic National Committee, among others.

* The latest national Gallup survey found the number of Americans who identify as Republican voters fell to 39% in the first quarter of this year, reaching an 11-year low. The number of Americans who identify as Democratic voters, meanwhile, climbed to 49%, reaching levels unseen since the aftermath of Jan. 6.

* Against a backdrop of polls showing broad public opposition to the war with Iran, VoteVets Action Fund launched a new ad criticizing Republican Rep. Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin, widely seen as a vulnerable GOP incumbent, over his support for the conflict in the Middle East.

* On a related note, Majority Forward, a super PAC aligned with the Senate Democratic leadership, also launched a new ad targeting Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine. “Another war in the Middle East costing Americans almost a billion dollars a day,” the narrator in the commercial says. “Susan Collins voted to give Donald Trump a blank check for his war in Iran, but home in Maine, Susan Collins supported cutting Medicaid and raising our insurance costs.”

* Speaking of the longtime incumbent, Collins, who originally promised Mainers she’d step down after two terms, recently suggested that if she wins re-election, her upcoming fifth term would be her last. The senator’s campaign team soon after walked that back, suggesting the Republican lawmaker might also be eyeing another campaign in 2032, when she would be 80 years old.

* Trump hasn’t given up on tearing down Indiana Republican legislators who balked at the White House’s demands for a more gerrymandered district map: With a month remaining before Primary Day in the Hoosier State, the president’s political operation continues its revenge campaign against disobedient GOP state senators.

* Remember Mark Sanford? In a bit of a surprise, the former two-term South Carolina governor, former congressman and presidential candidate is launching a comeback bid, filing last week to run for his old House seat. The Charleston-area district is currently represented by Republican Rep. Nancy Mace, who’s running for governor.
