Today, Netflix has released the official trailer for A Different World, offering a closer look at the new students taking over the fictional HBCU while several familiar faces return to campus.
Maleah Joi Moon stars as Deborah Wayne, the youngest daughter of Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne. The series follows Deborah as she begins her own Hillman experience after growing up under the watch of two parents whose college years became the basis for one of television’s most beloved sitcom romances.

The trailer introduces Deborah’s classmates, including Rashida Duvall, played by Alijah Kai, and Cornell Young IV’s Shaquille Johnson. Jordan Aaron Hall stars as psychology major Amir Rodale, while Kennedi Reece plays Hazel Henry. Chibuikem Uche rounds out the group as Kojo Achebe, a fashion entrepreneur with Ghanaian and Nigerian roots.
Hillman alumni will be part of the story as well. Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison return as Whitley and Dwayne, while Cree Summer reprises her role as Freddie Brooks. Darryl M. Bell is also back as Ron Johnson.

Felicia Pride created the 10-episode series and serves as showrunner. Debbie Allen, whose history with A Different World dates back to the original series, directs the premiere and serves as an executive producer. Reggie Rock Bythewood and Gina Prince-Bythewood are also executive producers.
The new series arrives almost four decades after A Different World first introduced audiences to Hillman in 1987. Rather than retelling the stories of its original characters, Netflix’s continuation follows their children’s generation as they begin making their own way through college.
A Different World premieres September 24 on Netflix.
