Usher And Tameka Foster’s Son ‘Cinco’ Is Officially A Howard Bison

The 18-year-old is ready to begin his freshman year at the prestigious HBCU thanks to the love and support of his parents.

Singer Usher Raymond and his ex-wife Tameka Foster came together recently to celebrate their eldest son, Usher Raymond V, affectionately known as Cinco. He is kickstarting his freshman year at Howard University as a Bison, and his parents couldn’t be more proud.

The crooner posted a video on his Instagram feed of Cinco taking part in the Freshman Pinning Ceremony on campus that welcomes the newest students. He shared a few sentimental words during the event.

“Hey, Cinco! Yeah! This is just the beginning, man. What a wild and amazing adventure,” he said in a clip taken during the event. “You here in the Mecca. It’s your time to shine, kid.”

The 47-year-old father of four continued, “You wanted this, you manifested this, you called this into action. You didn’t give up. And now this is just your beginning, man. I’m so proud of you. It’s your time. It’s your time to shine. You show ’em what Usher is now.”

The new college student was surrounded by his community during the moment, including his stepmom Jennifer Goicoechea, whose excitement was impossible to miss.

Like Usher, Cinco’s mom is also both proud and emotional as she ushers her son into adulthood. The stylist posted a reel on Instagram with snippets of her helping Cinco move into his dorm.

“Momma tiiiired ….I always say ‘one for the books’… but this time it was literally for the books. College books, that is. 📚My son URV, ‘Cinco,’ is officially a freshman in college. #Bison,” her caption read.

In true momma-bear fashion, Foster gave the room a good deep clean and rehab–new wallpaper included–to ensure the freshman could “start this chapter right,” in her words.

The caption continued, “Bittersweet doesn’t even cover it. I cried before I left home. I cried on the way back. But I couldn’t be prouder watching him step into an HBCU, into his own life, into a future that’s completely his to build.”

Cinco’s parents have come a long way over the years, overcoming a divorce and a contentious custody battle. Thankfully, they’ve been able to focus on raising their beautiful boys and have managed to become friends along the way. In February 2024, the mother of five told PEOPLE their co-parenting relationship was “great.”

“We’re friends and the kids are at an age now where they can kind of say where they want to be as far as, ‘Hey I want to be at Dad’s. I want to go to Mom’s.’”

She added at the time, “We have a very open-door policy with the boys. We let ’em go where they want to go. Everything is going pretty smoothly.”

The former couple also share another son, Naviyd Ely Raymond, who showed up to support his brother as he embarks on his journey at Howard.

Congratulations, Cinco, and here’s to exceeding expectations this school year!
