Why Byredo’s New Fragrance Is A Scent I’ll Remember Forever

In an industry with an overwhelming amount of product launches daily, The Empties Edit helps you cut through the noise. To help you find your new beauty and wellness favorites, this series highlights the tried-and-true products our writers constantly empty out and re-up on.

What do you choose today, to remember tomorrow? Often, when we’re making a memory, we may not realize it’s something we’ll remember at all. It’s only in the future that we look back and recall all the little details we’re subconsciously breathing in right here and now.

Byredo’s latest eau de parfum, Future Memories, smells like that: The tension between now and next. It captures the present moment and prompts us to be more intentional with how we live it. Then, in the future, we’re able to look back on it as a fond memory.

As I transition my fragrance wardrobe from summer to fall, the fragrance’s top notes are what I’ll remember first. The vivid greenery of galbanum opens my senses up to the brightness of blackcurrant and fresh aldehydes; It’s the memory of solo dates to sculpture parks and watering plants in my friend’s garden.

Then, Future Memories blooms into powdery iris and, the one note I associate the fragrance with the most: Warm, resinous labdanum. It reminds me of dressing up in an all-black number, lashes drenched in mascara, for a seriously sultry dinner out. It’s the note that feels the most transitional for fall, adding depth and texture to fragrance, like a heart-beating fireplace.

By the time to fragrance dries down, it leaves behind a sillage of vanilla intimately meshed with traces of musk. That’s where the full memory lays. It’s a reminder to be grounded in the moment and live life intentionally. In the end, these are the parts of yourself that’ll exist forever in your memory.
