Regarding Steve Benen’s Aug. 14 Maddowblog post, “Pressed on conditions on the USS Abraham Lincoln, Trump says all the wrong things”:
The conditions on the USS Abraham Lincoln can be added to the list of President Donald Trump’s lies and neglect. That said, the Republican Congress is getting a pass on lawmakers’ culpability for the war that Trump started against Iran, the state of the U.S. economy and their general neglect of constitutional duty.
Trump is not running for office this year, but the congressional enablers of his illegal actions are. It’s time that this administration was held responsible for its use of violence against U.S. citizens. Members of Congress should be held equally responsible for their role in the Iran war and the shirking of their duties.
This direct connection of compliant support should be the major election conversation over the coming weeks and months. I can only hope that by Election Day in November, gas prices, the actions of ICE officers on our streets, and the blood and other costs of a non-sanctioned war will fall equally on the congressional enablers as on the president to whom they sold their souls.
