Comer threatens Leon Black with contempt over alleged NDAs with women linked to Epstein

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., threatened to hold billionaire investor Leon Black in contempt of Congress if he does not hand over all nondisclosure agreements that the committee believes he signed with women linked to Jeffrey Epstein.

In a letter sent to Black’s attorney on Tuesday, Comer said Black has produced only a single NDA in response to a June 26 subpoena, when the subpoena required Black to submit all such agreements he is party to.

“The Committee demands full compliance with the subpoena and rejects any attempts at further disrupting or delaying this investigation,” the chairman said. He warned that the committee may initiate contempt proceedings if Black refuses to hand over the documents and fails to appear for his deposition before the panel on Sept. 3.

Comer has said that the committee is “pretty confident” that Black has signed NDAs with some of Epstein’s victims.

Black had refused to answer questions about the alleged NDAs during a voluntary closed-door interview with the committee on June 26. Comer announced the subpoena during the interview, which then ended abruptly.

Susan Estrich, Black’s attorney, criticized the committee afterward, telling reporters, “Mr. Epstein had no involvement with any NDAs, whether they exist or not.”

Estrich did not immediately respond to MS NOW’s request for comment. She told The Guardian that Comer’s letter misrepresented the facts and that Black was being targeted in a “political witch hunt.”

Black, a co-founder of Apollo Global Management, was one of Epstein’s main sources of income for several years, paying the financier more than $150 million for what he described as tax- and estate-planning services.

Black has said he had no knowledge of Epstein’s crimes and that he was deceived by Epstein. He has denied any wrongdoing.
