Trump says he could have done ‘very bad things’ to Biden, Obama and Clinton

President Donald Trump told reporters Wednesday that he could do “whatever I want,” including potentially taking action against prominent Democrats such as former Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“I could have done very bad things to Hillary Clinton. I could have done very, very bad things to Joe Biden. I could have done very bad things to Barack Hussein Obama,” Trump said in response to a reporter asking whether he could face another impeachment if Democrats gain control of the House in November.

“I thought it was inappropriate to do so because you have to treat the office of the presidency with respect,” Trump said. “Then I found out that they impeached me twice. I certainly, even to this moment, I can do whatever I want, if I want.”

Trump made the comments in the Oval Office after announcing automatic enrollment for Trump Accounts, the tax-advantaged investment accounts for children established under his administration earlier this year.

Trump was impeached twice during his first term, once over a call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about investigating Biden, then his opponent, in the 2020 presidential election, and again following the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, when he was charged with incitement of insurrection. He was acquitted both times. Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson has warned that Trump will be impeached again if Democrats win control of the House in the midterm elections, saying it is “guaranteed, probably on the first day” and that they are “raring to go.”

Trump said that while the Democrats he mentioned have also “done some very bad things” to him, he views the presidency as a “very sacred position” that “has to be treated properly.”

Still, since taking office again in 2025, Trump’s Department of Justice has pursued cases against several of his perceived political adversaries, including New York Attorney General Letitia James and former FBI Director James Comey. The DOJ has faced questions and bipartisan criticism over its independence and the administration’s involvement in investigations of Trump’s political opponents.

Trump on Wednesday did not swear off taking action against the Democrats he called out. “I have my shot and still do,” he told reporters, mentioning Biden, Obama and Clinton by name.
