Melat Kiros becomes the first Gen Z woman elected to Congress

Melat Kiros looks down the line of assembled members of the Colorado Democratic Party during a unity rally put on by the party on July 2, 2026 in Denver.

The 29-year-old Ethiopian immigrant was one of several candidates to win with backing from the Democratic Socialists of America or its local chapters.
