All Your Faves Are Playing Mas This Carnival Season

Summer is prime time for seeing the world, and by the looks of things, it’s also the perfect time for the stars to put on colorful, bejeweled, and feathered costumes to dance and find joy at the center of Caribbean Carnival celebrations.

Nobody does it bigger than Rihanna. The superstar stepped out for the Grand Kadooment Day parade in Barbados as part of Crop Over. The mom of three rocked one of her most ornate looks yet, including a towering bejeweled headpiece and feathers, in rich hues, that took up space in the best way possible. The look, and the rest you’ll see as you scroll down, were crafted by Lauren Austin Designs.

She danced with her friends, including longtime bestie Melissa Forde, as well as with dancehall legend Spice. Even after that parade ended, the party continued, as Rihanna, with partner A$AP Rocky in tow, enjoyed even more Crop Over festivities. She danced without a care, as cameras watched her every move, whining up on her man with glee and pride. You love to see it.

But she’s certainly not alone in the fun she’s having. Singer Chloe Bailey is now a seasoned mas participant. One of her favorite locales on the map is St. Lucia, and she is always on the ground when the Lucian Carnival kicks off in July, serving bawdy and good vibes.

“i love you St Lucia!!!” she wrote after this summer’s fete. “thank you for making me the happiest every year at Carnival”

Bailey may have inspired others to hit up the hot spot for Carnival, because Kandi Burruss and Angela Simmons also played mas for Lucian Carnival. Burruss brought along some of her best girlfriends for the fun, the group wearing matching red costumes.

“This is a memory I will always cherish!” Burruss said. “@carnivalsaintlucia was everything!!!!

As for Simmons, she too brought along her girlfriends and they matched in blue and neon yellow costumes (and crispy white sneakers).

“The most freeing feeling !!!!!” Simmons wrote. “Saint Lucia I LOVE YOU ❤️ Feels like home.”

We love to see hardworking women let their hair down at Carnival celebrations, and we look forward to seeing who else will put on their feathers and vibrant costumes and let their confidence shine.
