After two appearances at the Coachella festival this month, the enigmatic British producer and singer brought an evening of nostalgia to Knockdown Center in Queens.
The singer was accused of copying his ballad “Thinking Out Loud” from Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On.” In court, he said he and a co-writer created the song, inspired by his grandparents.
In the 1950s, when segregation was still widespread, his ascent to the upper echelon of show business was historic. But his primary focus was civil rights.
