Lionsgate has released the official trailer for The Gates, the latest thriller from writer and director John Burr. Set for a March 13, 2026 theatrical debut, the film follows three college friends whose late-night detour turns into a fight for survival.

Mason Gooding, Algee Smith, and Keith Powers star as Derek, Kevin, and Tyon, respectively, who stumble into a secluded, heavily guarded neighborhood after taking the wrong road home. When they witness a killing inside the compound, escape quickly becomes impossible. As panic spreads and suspicion falls on them, the trio must navigate a community that appears unified under a single, dangerous influence.

James Van Der Beek portrays the development’s commanding figure, a man whose calm demeanor masks something far more sinister. The role marks one of his final screen appearances, following the news of his unfortunate passing earlier this month.

Produced by Nancy Leopardi, Ross Kohn, and Gary Glushon, the film is a collaboration between Indy Entertainment & Core 4 Films in association with Rebellium Films. The footage teases a claustrophobic thriller built around one long night behind closed walls.
