How Americans view capitalism and socialism

Gallup’s latest update on how Americans view economic systems found an overwhelming majority favoring free enterprise and a sizeable minority favoring socialist systems.

The report found 81% of Americans viewed free enterprise favorably, compared with 54% for capitalism and 39% for socialism. Those polled distinguished free enterprise and capitalism thus: free enterprise was associated with greater economic freedom and competition, while capitalism was associated with personal upward mobility.
