Milo Yiannopoulos, the far-right provocateur and supporter turned critic of President Donald Trump, was detained Thursday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Department of Homeland Security announced.

The British native — best known as a former editor of right-wing news site Breitbart — was arrested at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Kenner, DHS said in a post on X. According to the department, Yiannopoulos “legally entered the country on May 14, 2019, through New York City, New York. He chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws.”

An immigration judge issued Yiannopoulos a final order of removal on July 22 after the 41-year-old failed to show up for his immigration hearing, DHS wrote. He will remain in ICE custody pending removal, according to the department.

The ICE database shows Yiannopoulos is currently detained, though as of Friday afternoon, it does not specify where. The DHS post on X announcing his detention shows a mugshot of Yiannopoulos wearing a black T-shirt and staring expressionlessly into the camera.

“This administration is working diligently to ensure that aliens in our country illegally can no longer fly unless it is out of our country to self-deport,” DHS said in a statement provided to MS NOW.

TMZ first reported the news of Yiannopoulos’ arrest earlier Friday. According to the celebrity news outlet, Yiannopoulos was in New Orleans because Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, was slated to perform in the city Friday night. Yiannopoulos previously worked for Ye.

Yiannopoulos resigned from Breitbart in 2017, following a controversy in which he appeared to condone pedophilia during a livestream video. In response to the backlash from the remarks, he later said, “I said some things on those Internet live streams that were simply wrong.”

Since his initial downfall, Yiannopoulos has rebranded himself several times in repeat attempts to regain a foothold in MAGA circles again. Over the years, he renounced homosexuality and said he was no longer gay, doubled down on his anti-immigrant stance and called for mass deportations, and stood behind Ye during various political and business ventures of his, including a short-lived flirtation with a presidential bid.

Laura Loomer, another far-right commentator and ally of Trump, took credit for the arrest on social media, claiming in a post on X that she “exposed his illegal alien lifestyle.” Loomer’s post was accompanied by a photo of Yiannopoulos posing alongside former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, for whom he previously served as an intern.

In another post on X, Loomer called for the Department of Justice to investigate Greene “for hiring and harboring” Yiannopoulos. Greene does not appear to have publicly commented on his arrest.

Loomer also posted an undated video of herself and Yiannopoulos arguing.

The White House referred MS NOW’s request for comment to the DHS.
