‘Martin’ Spinoff ‘The Varnell Hill Show’ Unveils First Look Images Ahead Of September Debut

Tommy Davidson is stepping back into one of his most memorable roles this fall, and new images from The Varnell Hill Show offer the first look at what audiences can expect when the comedy premieres next month.

Davidson reprises Varnell Hill, the flashy television host first introduced during the original run of Martin. This time, Hill headlines his own series, picking up years later as he tries to keep his late-night program relevant while navigating an industry that has changed around him. Familiar confidence remains intact, though keeping his production on track proves to be another matter.

Martin Lawrence returns in a recurring role while also serving as an executive producer. Bentley Kyle Evans, a longtime collaborator of Lawrence’s, serves as writer, director and showrunner. The cast also includes Kym Whitley, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Emmanuel Hudson, Chris Williams and Nick Cafero. Guest appearances throughout the season come from Deon Cole, Damon Wayans, Mike Epps, Ms. Pat, Omarion and others.

Originally developed for BET+, the comedy will now debut on Paramount+ following the migration of the platform’s original programming. The series marks another expansion of the Martin universe nearly three decades after the sitcom concluded, bringing one of its most recognizable supporting characters back into focus.

The eight-episode first season begins September 1 with two episodes. New installments will arrive weekly through October 13.
