Michael Steele blasts Trump’s ‘grift’ after disclosure reveals $1.4B in crypto income

MS NOW’s Michael Steele tore into Donald Trump after the president released his annual financial disclosure on Tuesday. According to the 927-page document filed with the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, Trump took in more than $1 billion in 2025 from his crypto ventures — an industry he has had direct influence in regulating as president.

The disclosure shows Trump earned more than $500 million from World Liberty Financial, the cryptocurrency company he co-founded with his sons Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., along with an additional $635 million from his $TRUMP meme coin.

When Trump was asked about his ballooning wealth, the president brushed off concerns of a conflict of interest. “I don’t get involved in my personal — we have funds that run my money,” he told reporters Wednesday before embarking on his first trip on the new Air Force One, a retrofitted $400 million jet gifted by the Qatari government last year.

On Tuesday’s “The Weeknight,” Steele blasted the president over the eye-popping figures, reminding the administration of “a little thing called ethics” and the “perception of corruption.”

The MS NOW host drew from his own experience adhering to ethics requirements while working in government in Maryland. “I remember, as lieutenant governor, I tried to get some supporters of our administration to contribute, not new but used, computers to a high school that was in desperate need of it. And I was told emphatically I could not get those donors to do that because of the appearance of impropriety, an unethical influence in that regard,” he recalled.

The former Republican official said he “respected that” advice and instead “went out and made the case in the budget to put the money in for such use.”

According to Steele, the president does not share that same respect for ethics. “All of this is just this BS for Donald Trump to grift, grift and grift because that’s all you know how to do,” he said.

“You can’t run the country, but you can run it into the ground — and that’s exactly what this is,” Steele added. “And it’s so unfortunate that we sit back and allow this man to sit in that White House, and his kids and his family, to take from the American people every damn day.”

“How the hell do you make $1.4 billion in a year?” he asked. “Come on.”
