The Times recorded an adjusted operating profit of $69 million for the third quarter, up from $65 million in the same period last year.

The news organization said it was taking “appropriate action” after the person posted a series of vulgar and racist tweets and headlines.

Sonal Shah will take over from Evan Smith, who has run the nonprofit news organization since he co-founded it in 2009.
