King Charles III clarified that the duke and duchess of Sussex will remain non-working royals in the United Kingdom, the BBC reported Monday.

Prince Harry and Meghan will not be able to use the titles of “His and Her Royal Highness,” according to a letter sent on behalf of the king by the Lord Chamberlain, a top palace official, and obtained by the BBC. The letter also reportedly states the couple are “private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.”

“The charitable work of the Duke and Duchess is a personal matter for them both and undertaken in their private capacity,” the letter states, per the BBC.

Palace sources told the BBC the letter has also been sent to Harry’s team and to the government, military and Lord Lieutenants.

Harry and Meghan announced their decision last month to relocate from California back to the U.K. with their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5. The couple left the U.K. in 2020, after stepping back as working members of the royal family.

Reports suggest Harry is interested in spending more time with his father as the king undergoes cancer treatment. Relations within the family have been strained following the 2023 publication of Harry’s memoir, “Spare,” in which he accused his brother, Prince William, of physically attacking him.
