The Real Housewives of Potomac are back! Robyn Dixon and Gizelle Bryant joined ESSENCE on IGTV and revealed how the show is impacting their relationships, the second time around.

Dixon shared that her celebrity status couldn’t stop COVID-19 from stalling her second wedding to her ex-husband turned fiancé Juan Dixon. “We have not set a wedding date Juan and I are just enjoying our engagement and, of course, coronavirus has thrown a lonely wrench in any type of plans I want to start working on. So right now we’re just enjoying our engagement and we hope that at some point we can share our wedding with everyone,” she shared.

Bryant asked Dixon if the “uncomfortable conversations” the show requires had a positive impact on the Dixons reuniting.

“The show helped us because like early on we received so much criticism and people just had so much to say and it kind of forced us to bond together, and we really had each other’s backs and were ready to go through what it was. We were dealing with it and face it head on,” she said. “It’s crazy because a lot of times you hear that reality TV breaks people up but in this case I kind of think it kept us together cause we felt like, man it’s a cold mean world out here.”

“Nasty,” interjected Bryant.

“So nasty so mean,” continued Robyn. “And when we look at each other there’s one person that we know we can depend on and we have each other’s back. Everything’s not perfect all the time but we know where our hearts are and we want the best for each other. You know that’s so much more important to me, than I don’t know making other people in the world happy.”

Bryant said: “That shows people in relationships what it really means to be like a ride or die cause I feel like y’all ride or die for each other.”

Dixon explained why the unconventional household she and Juan shared in earlier seasons worked for them both.

“Juan grew up without like a normal family because both of his patents died by the time he was a teenager. They were drug addicts, so for him he wanted to make sure he was not what his father was. He wanted to be the opposite of what his father was. He wanted to be an example of being a good father to his kids.”

That example included continuing to maintain a strong family unit even after divorce.

“Sometimes people can go one or two ways, they can repeat the mistakes in the past from their parents or they can say ‘You know what? I’m not doing that. I want to be totally different. I want to be better.’ And I’m just so happy that he chose to be better,” she said.

Robyn went on to ask Bryant about her ex-husband turned new boyfriend Pastor Jamal Bryant.

“I have to talk to you about your new boo, your new old boo,” said Robyn.

Bryant revealed she was guarded in the beginning of the rekindled romance. She remarked that she was not afraid of the ladies’ opinions, just disinterested in their feedback. “I knew they were gonna throw shade regardless because that’s just whatever,” she said. “But everybody always has commentary and I don’t really listen to commentary because that’s just not my thing.”

“You know how you just want to keep something to yourself? I did want to keep it to myself,” she added.

She shared how the forced distance affected their relationship. “We’ve never been this far apart from each other. He’s in Atlanta. I’m here, that’s different. The pandemic hit. That’s different. We can’t see each other like we would normally see each other which kind of sucks, but you know the girls have been told that they’re going to school virtual online so maybe I can get on down to Atlanta.”

She expressed a desire to ease him into the show dynamics.

“It want to protect him and want to protect us. I don’t want him to feel that this whole thing is overwhelming,” she said.

“When you’ve been with somebody for a long time you know them inside and out and I feel like the maturity is there on both parts because I can be totally immature,” she admitted.
