Curtis Mayfield is credited as co-writer on the 1977 version of “One Love” because it incorporates lyrics from the Impressions’ 1965 song “People Get Ready” which was written by Mayfield and was a huge rallying cry during the Civil Rights Movement. The Impressions’ lead singer was a major influence on Marley.
