Thursday’s Mini-Report, 10.8.26

Today’s edition of quick hits.

* A case of ongoing interest: “A federal judge briefly extended White House access for MS NOW, CNN and Politico while he considers the news outlets’ request to indefinitely block restrictions imposed by the Trump administration. U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly suggested in a court hearing today that he would rule on the outlets’ request by the end of Tuesday.”

* One can certainly hope that he was telling the truth: “President Donald Trump announced Thursday that the U.S. will not attack Iran in the lead up to the midterm elections on Nov. 3, as Republicans struggle to message on high gas prices and rising costs linked to the monthslong conflict. ‘We are having productive discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran,’ Trump wrote Thursday on Truth Social.”

* Russia kills more civilians: “Under shredded netting meant to shield civilians from Russian drones, near residential buildings shattered by explosions, the charred metal skeleton of a commuter bus was all that was left on Thursday after another Russian strike in Kramatorsk in eastern Ukraine. At least 30 people were killed, local officials said, the latest civilian casualties in Moscow’s unrelenting campaign to make Ukraine’s towns and cities unlivable.”

* Hurricane Isaias: “Isaias strengthened into the first hurricane of the Atlantic season overnight as it surged toward the U.S. Gulf Coast today, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said. Isaias could become a major Category 3 hurricane, with winds of 111 mph or stronger, before it makes landfall.”

* Ebola in Kenya: “Kenya’s first Ebola case, a patient who travelled for weeks by road and air through three countries without being detected until he arrived in Nairobi, has raised questions about border control and how to trace the virus across countries.”

* The descent into madness at Health and Human Services is ongoing: “The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has launched a clinic dedicated to studying ‘patients experiencing health problems following vaccination’ as it mulls a reimbursement program for doctors who report vaccine-related injuries.”

* I don’t seriously expect any acts of contrition, but Democrats are right about this: “Senate Judiciary Democrats are asking Chair Chuck Grassley to apologize to Jack Smith on the behalf of his GOP committee members — especially for Sen. Eric Schmitt, the Missouri Republican who falsely accused Smith of secretly attending an NBA game in Atlanta to conspire with local prosecutors about bringing charges against President Donald Trump.”

See you tomorrow.
