During an interview Thursday morning with MS NOW’s Peter Alexander, Eric Deters, the donor at the center of corruption allegations involving Donald Trump’s U.S. ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, said what Guilfoyle sought “absolutely was a quid pro quo,” describing the ambassador as “a grifter” and a “wicked, evil person.”
On Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal reported that Guilfoyle, just days before her 2025 Senate confirmation hearing, asked Deters to wire $100,000 directly to her American Express account to pay down a bill. According to Signal messages reviewed by the Journal, Guilfoyle told Deters the payment “won’t show up anywhere” if sent to American Express.
The report said Deters, a Kentucky attorney and former congressional candidate, had been seeking assistance with personal tax and legal issues and had promised Donald Trump Jr.’s former fiancee up to $1 million if she could use her connections to help him. Deters also sought Guilfoyle’s help pressing the Department of Justice to pursue the extradition of Abubakar Atiq Durrani, an Ohio doctor who fled to Pakistan after being charged with insurance fraud related to allegedly unnecessary spinal surgeries.
The Journal reported that Guilfoyle forwarded messages she had sent to then-IRS Commissioner Billy Long and updated Deters on efforts to lobby the DOJ. Deters, who said he had previously paid the former Fox News host $300,000 in speaking fees, ultimately did not send the $100,000 payment.
Guilfoyle’s attorney disputed the authenticity of the messages but did not provide specifics. A U.S. Embassy official defended the ambassador, telling the Journal her career “is guided by deep and abiding values” and that she was fully vetted and confirmed by the Senate.
Deters told Alexander he believed his dealings with Guilfoyle “absolutely was a quid pro quo” and said the ambassador “ambushed [him] out of the blue” with her request for a $100,000 payment to American Express, which he said he could not afford at the time.
“She offered me to be her ride and die forever if I did this,” he said. “And to be very candid, I did not do it. But the reason why I did not do it is, I didn’t have that money at the time. It was the worst time that she could have ever asked me for another $100,000.”
The attorney, who was twice suspended by the Kentucky Bar Association for filing frivolous claims and making false statements in court proceedings, said he had “no doubt” Guilfoyle “has done this to more than me.”
“She thought I was going to be a sucker, and I’m not a sucker,” he said.
While Deters said he supports many of Trump’s policies and told Alexander that he would continue to support MAGA-backed candidates, and given the chance, would vote for the president again, he criticized Trump personally. He said “loves billionaires” and “doesn’t care about average rank-and-file people” beyond their votes.
Deters said he has contacted Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., the chair of the House Oversight Committee, about holding congressional hearings into his allegations against Guilfoyle, but has not received a response.
