A reading room full of millions of files related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein is set to hit the road, with one organizer telling MS NOW the American people will finally be able to see the “totality” of the “shocking” documents for themselves. The Donald J. Trump and Jeffrey Epstein Memorial bookmobile, a portable version of the pop-up museum unveiled in New York City in May, plans to make stops across the country, showcasing evidence organizers hope will be “impossible to look away from.” 

Miles Taylor, who served in the White House during Trump’s first administration and is now a co-founder of DEFIANCE.org, which partnered with the Institute for Primary Facts on the bookmobile, joined MS NOW’s Jen Psaki to discuss the project and why he believes “no episode epitomizes [the president’s] corruption better than what has happened with the Epstein files.”

On Tuesday’s “The Briefing,” the former Department of Homeland Security official revealed his doubts about the power of the exhibit until he saw it for himself. 

“When I went up to New York City, still having talked with them for months about this, I thought, you know, it’s interesting, but is it going to feel like an exhibit worth visiting?” he recalled. “I walked in, I went downstairs, I saw six survivors, half of them in tears. People were moved by this exhibit. And it wasn’t just Epstein survivors. Strangers coming off the street to come tour the thing — if they could get a ticket because it was sold out — they were so moved by just seeing the totality of the files.”

Taylor said the mobile pop-up museum gives Americans the chance to “actually pull something off the shelf” and realize for themselves that this is not “a scandal that’s been hyped in the media.”

“We’re talking about a thousand victims. We’re talking about one of the most sprawling sex trafficking networks in American history. We’re talking about files that include allegations about the president of the United States engaging potentially in nefarious activity with minors. We’re talking about some very shocking stuff — and to see it is to really start to understand it fully,” he told Psaki. (Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing or involvement in Epstein’s crimes.)

Taylor said organizers hope the exhibit sparks a demand for greater transparency at the Justice Department, which is still withholding documents related to its investigation into Epstein, in violation of a law passed by Congress late last year. (The Justice Department has said it has adequately complied with the law, pointing to exemptions in the law that allow the agency to withhold records that continue identifying information about victims or details that could jeopardize any investigations.)

“It also reminds you about what you don’t see,” he said. “You see the magnitude, and you realize millions of files have not been released, thousands of people have not received justice, at least dozens of co-conspirators have not been revealed, and you recognize this cover-up is not over yet, and it needs to be uncovered.”

The former Trump official said the administration’s botched handling of the Epstein files release has become one of the most defining examples of the president’s corruption. “In the two and a half years I worked under Trump, one thing became clear: He was the most corrupt human being I’ve ever met, and no episode epitomizes his corruption better than what has happened with the Epstein files,” Taylor said.
