Wednesday’s Campaign Round-Up, 3.25.26: DCCC launches ad campaign on gas prices

Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.

* This week, the House Democrats’ campaign arm, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, launched a new digital ad campaign focused on rising gas prices. In a press statement, the DCCC said the spot would run in 44 competitive U.S. House districts.

* With former Sen. Markwayne Mullin taking the reins at the Department of Homeland Security, Oklahoma’s Republican governor, Kevin Stitt, appointed energy executive Alan Armstrong to serve the remainder of Mullin’s term. Armstrong will be a placeholder senator who has said he does not intend to serve a full term of his own.

* In California’s gubernatorial race, some of the leading contenders were scheduled to participate in a Tuesday-night debate, but the event was canceled when the only candidates who qualified for the stage were white.

* In Alabama’s Republican gubernatorial primary, Ken McFeeters launched a new lawsuit this week, challenging Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s eligibility to run for the office. State law dictates that governors have to live in the state for seven years to be eligible, and McFeeters contends that the far-right senator does not meet the standard. Tuberville’s campaign called McFeeters’ effort “a joke” and said the senator has lived in Alabama since 2019.

* To the surprise of no one, Missouri’s conservative state Supreme Court upheld a newly redrawn congressional map this week, which was designed to deliver an additional U.S. House seat to Republicans.

* In Iowa’s closely watched U.S. Senate race, VoteVets is making an $825,000 investment in support of state Rep. Josh Turek’s Democratic candidacy, which is expected to give him a significant boost. Iowa’s primary is scheduled for June 2.

* And in Nebraska’s U.S. Senate race, Republican officials tried to keep Democratic candidate Cindy Burbank off the ballot, but the state Supreme Court rejected the effort this week and restored her candidacy.
