Interest in Film Festival continues to grow—organizers received more than 600 submissions from filmmakers around the world, resulting in a program featuring narrative films, documentaries, social impact projects, short films, and an expanded spotlight on the fast-growing microdrama format.

Among this year’s featured selections are A Portrait of a Postman, featuring Tina Knowles; Please Return Your Cart, executive produced by Issa Rae; ChikaBOOM!, starring Yara Shahidi; Funny Feelings, featuring Mack Wilds, Pretty Vee, B. Simone, Terri J. Vaughn, Etienne Maurice, and Pastor Mike Jr.; FreeLance, starring KevOnStage and Spence Moore II; and Switches, featuring Sinqua Walls.

Festivalgoers can also expect special conversations with talent behind many of the featured projects, offering an inside look at the creative process. Actress and producer Sanaa Lathan will also participate in the ESSENCE Film Festival Pitch Competition, helping spotlight emerging filmmakers as they present the next generation of Black stories.
