President Donald Trump is slated to announce nearly a dozen new drug pricing deals with pharmaceutical companies on Monday, a person familiar with the announcement, who was granted anonymity to share details, told MS NOW.

It is unclear exactly how the new agreements will affect what patients pay out of pocket, as Medicaid is already required by law to receive significant discounts from companies. The new drug pricing deals were first reported by Bloomberg.

The Trump administration has already announced “most-favored-nation” (MFN) drug pricing agreements with 17 pharmaceutical companies. MFN agreements work to lower prescription drug costs to align with what other Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development countries pay.

In the lead-up to the midterm elections in November, the White House has made several similar drug pricing announcements branded as actions to increase affordability, a term Trump routinely says is a fake narrative pushed by Democrats.

“I inherited high prices, and then from the first day, they started using the word ‘affordability,’” Trump said in an interview that aired on Fox News on Sunday. “It was a new word. Nobody ever heard the word. It was a new word that they devised because they’re quite good at that.”
