White House construction worker taken away by ambulance

A worker was taken away in an ambulance Monday afternoon as crews removed scaffolding from the North Portico of the White House.

Shortly after 1 p.m., an ambulance and EMS crews responded to the White House and went to the North Portico. Emergency responders helped remove a scaffolding worker, lowering him to the ground in a stokes basket. He was seen alert and responsive by an MS NOW crew before being loaded into an ambulance. It is unclear whether the man had been injured or had suffered another medical emergency.

Removal of the scaffolding at the North Portico has appeared to end for the day. President Donald Trump is scheduled to return to the White House on Monday evening after spending the Labor Day Weekend in Bedminster, N.J.

In July, the White House told MS NOW that the North Portico was undergoing standard renovations, including stonework and crack repair, along with security enhancements to its doors. On Saturday, the tarp shrouding the scaffolding that surrounded the columns of the portico was removed.

The renovations to the North Portico are part of more than a dozen construction projects the Trump administration has been implementing across Washington, D.C.

The White House and DC Fire/EMS were not immediately available for comment on this incident.
