‘Wow!’: Trump snaps after losing out on Nobel Peace Prize again

President Donald Trump lashed out on social media after losing out on the Nobel Peace Prize for another year, framing it as a snub against the entire United States.

In a Truth Social post on Saturday morning, Trump listed a litany of supposed achievements, including capturing Venezuela’s former president and ending what he described as eight wars while being close to “ending or settling” two more.

“Yet, with all of that I, or the United States of America, did not get the Noble Peace Prize. WOW!” Trump said.

His post follows a screed late on Friday about the award, in which he attacked a human rights lawyer who was this year’s honoree. On Truth Social, Trump wrote that “nobody has ever heard of” Navi Pillay, a South African jurist who was awarded the prize earlier that day for her work in international law. “I know nothing about this woman, and neither does anyone else!”

“The United States of America, represented by me, as your President, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but didn’t,” he lamented. He called the oversight “an indelible stain on Norway” and said the coveted prize “has been forever discredited by a handful of Radical Ideologues who are Anti-Democracy, and Enemies of Civilization!”

The Nobel Peace Prize has been a longstanding object of fixation for the president. He has repeatedly attacked Norway for not honoring him, even though its government does not choose the honorees. Nobel Peace Prize laureates are selected by a five-person panel on the Norwegian Nobel Committee, who are appointed by Norway’s parliament.

Trump has gone so far as to suggest that his interest in the U.S. acquiring Greenland has something to do with not having won a Nobel Peace Prize.

Some prominent figures have used the president’s obsession with the award to try to win him over. Last year, after Trump’s campaign to secure a Nobel Peace Prize failed, FIFA awarded him its inaugural “Peace Prize,” an award The New York Times reported was so “hastily arranged that it surprised several of the body’s most senior officials.”

The 2025 honoree, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, said in January that she gave Trump her Nobel Peace Prize during a White House meeting. It was widely seen as an attempt to get in his good graces after he declined to endorse Machado to lead Venezuela following the U.S. seizure of Nicolás Maduro.

There may be no such overtures from this year’s Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

As she received sustained applause from her colleagues at the Nuremberg Court over the news of her award, Pillay joked, “If you clap a little bit more, I may share this prize with Trump.”
